Red Bull's chief engineer: "Blessed with a very competent car"

Red Bull's chief engineer Paul Monaghan has said that he and Red Bull are in a "very privileged position" after dominating the first half of the 2023 season.

Speaking during Friday's press conference of the Dutch Grand Prix, the British engineer was asked about the lightning-fast RB19 and what has made it so effective this season, a season that has already seen 12 wins go the way of the Austrian team.

"Lap times would be the obvious thing to say, wouldn't it?", Monaghan joked. "We're in a very privileged position. It's a testament to all the hard work that's gone in, many hundreds of people in Milton Keynes, that its weaknesses are less than those of our competitors, it would seem. We've got two very good drivers, and one of them has sky-high confidence."

But Monaghan also highlights the team's desire to keep pushing, regardless of how strong the car has performed this season. "We've got a very strong engine, along with two very good drivers. You chip away and chip away and try. There's no complacency. It's not as if we're resting on our laurels or anything like that.

"We've still got ten races to go, and there are still 500 points in the Constructors' Championship. Ultimately, we're blessed with a very competent car, different circuits, different downforce levels, different speed ranges, Monaco to Spa, and its weaknesses are not such that we can go to one track thinking we might get a win and other tracks we're going to struggle with. We don't fear them as such."
