Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali has given his opinion on Max Verstappen's performance this season. As a fan, the Italian top man prefers to see an exciting battle at the front of the field, but he also believes that what the Dutchman is performing is exceptional. In an interview with De Telegraaf, Domenicali is full of praise.
No concern Domenicali over Verstappen's dominance
Stefano Domenicali has been at the helm of Formula 1 for several years. The former Ferrari team boss sees Formula 1's international popularity growing and is proud of it. A period of dominance by one driver, this season Max Verstappen, is no cause for concern about a possible reversal in the sport's popularity, according to the Italian:"No, I'm not worried about that at all."
"The interest in Formula 1 is huge, commercially we are still on the rise. And the races are sold out everywhere. Max [Verstappen] is very dominant, but during the races a lot is happening further down the field this year. The sport is heart healthy," Domenicali said. The Formula 1 boss also sees a dominant driver more or less as something that comes with the sport. He says he has a lot of respect for Verstappen's performance.
'How consistently Verstappen performs is exceptional'
At Zandvoort, Verstappen hopes to record a ninth consecutive Grand Prix victory in front of his home crowd. That would equal Sebastian Vettel 's record. Domenicali appreciates Verstappen's winning streak:"Of course, if you ask me with my Formula 1 cap on, I also prefer to see a fight between two or preferably even more drivers until the end of the season. But this is also part of it. You can also turn it around and appreciate what Max is doing. How consistently he performs, that is exceptional. You have to accept and appreciate that."
