Formula 2 Zandvoort feature race | Novalak wins race full of incidents
Clement Novalak won the Formula 2 main race at Circuit Zandvoort. The race started on a semi-wet track, which made for a lot of action. Zane Maloney was second, and Jak Crawford finished third. Richard Verschoor just missed the podium of his home race and finished fourth.
The Formula 2 main race started with a formation lap behind the safety car as a result of treacherous conditions. The track was wet but not wet enough for rain tyres, so the drivers opted to start on slicks. That the conditions were tricky became clear right from the start. There were a lot of incidents, and the safety car came out, including title contender Vesti going around the track.
Crash Pourchaire, Vesti loses tyres
On lap 10 of the race, there was a big crash. Championship leader Theo Pourchaire shot off in the fast corner Scheivlak and caused the second safety car. The Frenchman had just made his pit stop and still had cold tyres. Soon after, there was a remarkable incident. Vesti suddenly lost both rear wheels, which had apparently not been fixed properly. The Dane was furious over the radio. So, both title contenders crashed out early at Zandvoort.
Novalak wins F2 main race
In the end, Novalak walked away with the victory. Novalak used the safety car caused by Pourchaire to his advantage and took the lead of the race and then did not relinquish it. Maloney was second, ahead of Crawford, who started from pole. Dutchman Verschoor finished fourth.
