Alonso compliments Verstappen: 'That's really underestimated'

Max Verstappen is dominating the 2023 Formula 1 season. The Dutchman won no fewer than 11 of the 13 races, with the last nine even being consecutive. According to two-time world champion Fernando Alonso, what Verstappen is achieving is underestimated.
Verstappen is class apart
Verstappen lost only two races in 2023, where he finished second behind his teammate. The Dutchman has scored 93.6 per cent of the maximum number of points, an impressive percentage. The Red Bull Racing driver is in a class of his own this season and this is also seen by Aston Martin driver Alonso.
"It is underestimated sometimes what Max is achieving. I think to win in such a dominant matter in any of the sports, professional sport, it is so complicated. You always feel that there is room to improve and you are not 100% happy with yourself as I am today, and I think Max is achieving that 100% more often than us at the moment, than any of the drivers. So that's why he is dominating."
Alonso believes he can achieve the same
Alonso is now 42 years old, but the Spaniard still believes he can achieve the same as Verstappen if Alonso were in the same car. "To be at the same level as him? Obviously, we have a lot of self-confidence, drivers in general, so I do believe that I can do as good as well," Alonso says.
