Italian GP qualifying results | Sainz takes pole, Verstappen on front row
- GPblog.com
Ferrari fired up the Italian home crowd. At Monza, Carlos Sainz qualified first, ahead of Max Verstappen. It remains to be seen whether the Ferrari driver can stay on the front row, as an investigation into the red cars will follow. They allegedly drove too slowly in Q1.
In the first part of qualifying, it was both Alpine cars that dropped out. Esteban Ocon had damage to his car, of which Gasly was unaware. A setback for the French team. Lance Stroll was last, a huge setback for Aston Martin.
AlphaTauri nearly made it through to Q2 but both will be happy with P11 and P12. In Q3, Sainz, Verstappen and Leclerc were separated by less than one tenth.
