Russell ahead of Hamilton but behind Red Bull and Ferrari: 'Just a step ahead'
George Russell started the Italian Grand Prix at Monza from fourth place, but ultimately failed to maintain it. Due to the better Red Bulls and Ferraris, Mercedes was the third team today. The Briton finished in fifth place, but teammate Lewis Hamilton did not manage to get past him and finished sixth.
"Fifth place was probably the maximum today and I think we'd have taken that result before the weekend. We've outpaced McLaren and Aston Martin here, but unfortunately Ferrari were just a step ahead of us here," Russell said after the Italian Grand Prix.
Formula 1 and Russell heading to Singapore
The next Grand Prix is in Asia. In a week and a half, Formula 1 will travel to Singapore, where the Grand Prix there is scheduled. Russell is confident of a good finish there, though, and is already looking ahead.
"I'm looking forward to heading to Singapore next. We were competitive there last year and I think that our car will be better suited to that circuit, so hopefully we can fight a bit closer to the front than we managed here," concludes Mercedes' Englishman.
