'Hatred and envy' between Red Bull and Mercedes: 'Marko is poking around'
- GPblog.com
After Max Verstappen's record-breaking weekend with Red Bull Racing in Italy, there was a lot of bickering back and forth between Mercedes and Red Bull. Christijan Albers still sees tempers running high between the teams, all because of the 2021 world championship, where Verstappen became world champion at the expense of Lewis Hamilton.
"It is unbelievable that there is still so much hatred and envy there. They can hardly let that go from the 2021 Formula One season, which was so tense. Everything was done by Mercedes to have their driver become champion, and Red Bull to have their driver become champion," Albers told the Telegraaf Formula 1 podcast. "There is obviously still a lot of hatred, which is unbelievable. I just can't imagine that, but it's still there."
Albers no fan of Marko
"Red Bull also participates in that," Albers continued. "Helmut Marko, we don't hear him very often, but when we hear him on German or Austrian television we don't get very happy about it either. He just keeps poking around with that little knife of his," the former Formula 1 driver concludes.
After the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Wolff said Verstappen would probably not care at all about the record he had just broken. The Austrian team boss said it would only be fun for Wikipedia, which no one would read anyway.
