Make over for disappointing Haas: team goes for concept Red Bull Racing
- Ludo van Denderen
Things are radically changing at Haas F1. With each update, the team seemed to be going slower rather than faster, so internally the Americans have decided to completely change the concept of the car for 2024. Red Bull Racing's current RB19 is the blueprint of the car Haas wants to build, reports Auto, Motor und Sport.
According to the German Medium, team boss Guenther Steiner has come to the conclusion that repeatedly putting new updates on a car that does not function at its core is fairly pointless. At the factory, the focus is therefore now firmly on 2024, when Haas wants to give the car a thorough metamorphosis. That is not so easy yet, as it is not allowed to make modifications to the chassis, transmission, radiator installation and suspensions.
Haas' focus is therefore on the underside of the car (especially the floor), which should bear strong resemblance to the underside of the Red Bull. No doubt Haas' engineers looked closely at the photos taken in Monaco, when Sergio Perez saw his crashed car lifted high above everyone. Ferrari - from which Haas buys many parts - is reportedly planning the same.
Haas' B-spec in Austin
McLaren has shown that a radical turnaround can be successful. However, a completely new concept for this season was no longer realistic for Haas, but the US team is going to introduce some updates anyway before the Grand Prix in Austin, i.e. particularly focused on the underside of the car. So a B-spec of the VF-23, which is already creeping up towards the Red Bull. This season's modifications are aimed at gathering data for next year's car.
