Alonso believes in big result in Singapore: 'Going to give more'
- Ludo van Denderen
Aston Martin's performance - actually like that of all the other teams behind Red Bull Racing - has been full of ups and downs. One week amazing, the next the green team is already happy with a points finish. The latter was the case in Monza at the Italian Grand Prix. As being in position four in the constructors' title standings, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll travel to the Singapore Grand Prix. Expectations are high.
With Ferrari on the podium and in fourth place, ninth place for Alonso at the Italian GP was quite a setback in the fight for spot two in the championship. Meanwhile, Aston Martin dropped to fourth in the title race. The team was always aware that there would be big swings during the season. Monza was not the best then, Singapore should be more suitable to to the car's design.
Alonso will take risks
In the radio programme El Larguero, Fernando Alonso dares to express that his team will be much better in Asia. "Without a doubt it is going to be better than in Monza. Monza was on our calendar with a red cross through it, and unfortunately that was confirmed. Admittedly Singapore is not circled in green, it is true that we hope it will be better there. So I'm looking forward to it."
The streets of the Asian metropolis have seen plenty of interesting races in the past. Not always the fastest wins there, as overtaking is always difficult on the Marina Bay Street Circuit. "It's a circuit I like; a street circuit where you can take risks. I have always been good at it and of all the races to come, in Singapore I am going to give more than elsewhere," Alonso said.
