Rosberg teases Verstappen with 'selfie curse' in Singapore
A striking series of events is unfolding regarding selfies taken by former F1 champion Nico Rosberg. As soon as Rosberg takes a selfie with an F1 team in the background, things go wrong during the Grand Prix weekend for that team. For Max Verstappen, watch out in Singapore.
Verstappen has never won the Singapore Grand Prix before, and with his current form and his current car, the Dutchman seems more likely than ever to get his first win in the city-state. With a win in Singapore, the Red Bull Racing driver further extends his record-breaking streak to 11. But Rosberg jokes that he may throw a spanner in the works.
Rosberg teases Verstappen with selfie curse
Rosberg took a picture with Leclerc's Ferrari in 2021, and the Monegasque was unable to start his race the following day. In Hungary, Rosberg took a picture with Red Bull, and Verstappen only grabbed second place. On Saturday, he also caught Mercedes in one of his photos, and that 'resulted' in a poor start for Hamilton. It also hit Carlos Sainz in Italy, who took pole position but had to settle for P3 after Rosberg's photo in the race.
At the Sky Sports F1 Podcast, an F1 fan submitted a message asking Rosberg if he could take a selfie with Verstappen before the race: "Oh yes, that's the curse thing. I did try to find a neutral background last weekend. I thought, I don't want to cause any problems here." Last race in Italy, Rosberg chose 'Forza Ferrari' in the caption of his selfie. Rosberg: "So maybe I am not even allowed to do that, apparently."
"Surely, it would be a bit aggressive if I were to take a picture with Max before the race. That wouldn't be cool. But I'm just going to do it anyway!" jokes the German.
