Can Vettel someday return to F1? 'I can't exclude it'
Although four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel seems to be enjoying his Formula 1 retirement, he is not ruling out a comeback in Formula 1. Vettel recently gave a demonstration in a Red Bull on the legendary Nordschleife and enjoyed it. After his run, the German spoke to Sky Sports about a possible return to the sport.
Red Bull demo on the Nordschleife
The now 36-year-old Vettel drove the Nordschleife, a twenty-three-kilometre circuit in Germany's Eifel region, together with David Coulthard last weekend. Vettel and Coulthard took place in two old Red Bull cars and gave fans a fine demonstration. Whether the run in the RB8 could perhaps entice Vettel into a possible comeback remains to be seen. However, to the British branch of Sky Sports, he reveals that he can never say for sure.
Asked if Vettel would like to follow in the footsteps of world champions who made a comeback in Formula 1, he replied, "I can't say no, because that you don't know". Among others, Nigel Mansell, Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso returned to the highest class of motorsport in the past. Looking at these examples, Vettel indicated: "I think it's something that if you asked all of them, probably some of them would have said 'no'. And some of them I don't know, but in the end all of them came back, so I can't exclude it".
Vettel: 'Decision depends on the challenge'
Vettel does not seem to be thinking concretely about a comeback for now, but he says all his decisions will depend on the challenges that come his way. Currently, the German enjoys a different kind of challenge:"I'm enjoying the sort of outlook of the challenge of what to do next. It will be the way I see it, the biggest challenge for any racing driver and the biggest challenge for any sportsman, sportswoman, what do you do after?"
