Is Verstappen experiencing less pressure now that record is in? Max answers
There seems to be no end in sight to the run of wins: Verstappen's victory in Monza was the tenth Grand Prix win in a row, so in Singapore the Dutchman can extend his own record. Verstappen has never managed to win in Singapore. Taking his first win at the Marina Bay Street Circuit is not straight forward, Verstappen warns. He suspects the RB19 is going to struggle this weekend.
Challenge for RB19
"I think we are just not as competitive compared to other tracks. I think the street circuits are a little bit tougher for our car. I still think that we can do a good job, but it will be very tight," Verstappen explained.
The circuit in Singapore is a bit different this year compared to previous editions. Verstappen is fine with the changes. "It’s fine. Less braking, less steering, a bit more relaxed," the Dutchman sounded satisfied. Verstappen also expects that tyre degredation will also be better because of the change.
Verstappen captured the record for most consecutive wins in the king class of motorsport in Italy a fortnight ago. Does that take away pressure or has it actually increased the pressure to set the record even tighter? "No, I never really looked at the numbers 8, 9, 10. I just always want to do the best I can. So naturally, every single weekend, it's basically the same amount of pressure you put on yourself to try and get the best result out of it. So nothing really changes actually from that side."
World title in sight for Red Bull
Furthermore, Red Bull can secure its second constructors' title in a row in Singapore. The Austrian racing stable is performing at a high level this year, perhaps higher than ever. "I think we always had quite a high level of performance as a team, but we just didn't have that good of a car. I think, up until this year. Of course, last year already, the car was very good. But the years before, we were close, but winning here and there and not fighting for the Constructors. I think everything really came together. We understood these new regulations really well. And when you have good people in every single position, then you can achieve something like you're witnessing right now," he concluded.
