Engine parts overview | F1 drivers are getting closer to penalties

This weekend, the Singapore Grand Prix is on the programme. The drivers will be in action at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, which is known to be a difficult circuit to overtake. As a result, a tactical grid penalty for new engine parts does not seem like a great idea. But many Formula 1 drivers are already at the maximum number of parts allowed, making a grid penalty imminent. Here is an overview.

Verstappen safe for now

Max Verstappen is nowhere near a grid penalty for now. The Dutchman has already used two batteries (ES) and Control Electronics (CE) this season, but these parts tend to last a lot longer than the other four engine parts. With the latter, Verstappen is on three of the four parts allowed, making things look good for the Red Bull Racing driver for now. The same goes for teammate Sergio Perez, although the Mexican did pick up a grid penalty earlier for the extra battery and Control Electronics.

Several drivers are in the same position as Verstappen and Perez. These are Lewis Hamilton, Oscar Piastri, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll. All these drivers have used three internal combustion engines (ICE), turbochargers (TC), MGU-Hs and MGU-K but do incur grid penalties when using an extra battery or CE.

Which F1 drivers are on the edge?

Meanwhile, many drivers will run straight into a grid penalty with each new component, except for the exhaust (EX). These include both Ferrari and Alfa Romeo drivers. George Russell, Pierre Gasly, Liam Lawson (in Daniel Ricciardo's car), Yuki Tsunoda and Nico Hulkenberg will also face grid penalties immediately if a part needs to be replaced.
