'Schumacher swaps Formula 1 for adventure in other racing series in '24'
- Ludo van Denderen
For Mick Schumacher, the chances of getting a seat in Formula 1 have once again diminished after Guanyu Zhou's contract extension at Sauber. The German has, therefore now set his sights on classes other than F1. According to the trade magazine Motorsport actuell and also Sky Sports, he has now found something to continue his racing career.
While Schumacher revealed earlier this week that he still hopes for a place in Formula 1, the son of F1 legend Michael realises that it is getting harder by the year to get a second chance after a failed adventure with Haas. So, to still be able to get regular action, the German will have to look beyond Formula 1. Participation in the World Endurance Championship looks set to be his next career step.
Alpine offers a solution for Schumacher
Schumacher is reportedly about to sign with Alpine, where he will take a seat in a hypercar from next season. German news agency DPA has since asked Schumacher's manager for a comment, but Sabine Kehm immediately said she did not want to comment on speculation.
Alpine has only relatively just started its adventure in WEC. Last weekend, for example, former F1 driver Stoffel Vandoorne sat in one of the team's hypercars at the 6 Hours of Fuji in Japan. Alpine's ultimate goal is to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the French team's home race.
