Possible penalty for Verstappen in Singapore: stewards to investigate
Max Verstappen may face a penalty from race control after a possible offence during Q1. The Red Bull Racing driver reportedly stopped too long in the pit lane for a green light. The Dutchman was looking for a gap and may have waited too long. The FIA will investigate the incident after qualifying.
Behind Verstappen at that moment were the two Mercedes drivers, who therefore had to wait longer before entering the track. Verstappen stopped in front of a green light and the regulations state that you are in principle not allowed to stop under these conditions. Verstappen may receive a grid penalty for this.
The incident will be investigated after the session and so Verstappen will probably get the chance to tell his story to the stewards. An argument that the two-time world champion may be able to make is that standing still in the pit lane is safer than standing still on the track while other drivers are busy doing their flying lap.
