Wolff does not care about missing out on pole: 'Outperformed ourselves'
Toto Wolff is happy with second and fifth place finishes for George Russell and Lewis Hamilton in qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix. Mercedes missed out on pole position, but the Austrian team boss doesn't seem to be particularly annoyed by that. Wolff is especially happy that they are in a position to win the race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Mercedes happy with the result in Singapore
"I think it was really great outperforming ourselves," Wolff told Viaplay. "This is a Ferrari track, and that we've been able to come close with George is fantastic and having two cars in the top six. No Red Bull as a competitor, it's going to be an exciting race tomorrow."
Mercedes has been faster on Sunday all year. The W14 is a lot more economical on the tyres so that could be a big advantage for Russell. Wolff sees chances of victory, although he knows overtaking is not easy on the street circuit.
There may even be some rain, which could shake things up again. "I think you've got to stay humble. We start in P2 and P5. I hope it's not a one-stop, straightforward, easy drive into the sunset but one of the exciting races, and everything is in between P1 and P6."
