Horner can still smile: 'Goal is to take championship tomorrow'

Christian Horner can still smile after his drivers' dramatic qualifying result. In Singapore, Red Bull theoretically have their first chance to clinch the 2023 constructors' world title, but this seems almost impossible after the elimination of both cars in Q2. Speaking to Viaplay, the Red Bull team boss joked that this is still the goal for tomorrow.

Red Bull drivers eliminated in Q2

With both drivers eliminated in Q2, Red Bull look likely to have a challenging race. However, Horner hopes his team will have a better showing tomorrow. "I think we struggle on street tracks compared to the open circuits, but we still won those races, whereas today we weren't even at the races," Horner said. "So we've got to understand exactly what's caused the issue. The points are tomorrow night, it's going to be a tough, tough race but we'll throw everything at it."

Red Bull Racing could, in theory, clinch the constructors' title tomorrow. However, that requires Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez to finish first and second, and Mercedes will have to remain scoreless. A tough task, but Horner is not giving up. With a wink, he said: "Tomorrow we have our first strike at winning the Constructors' World Championship which means we have to finish first and second with Mercedes non-scoring. So that's our goal."
