Provisional starting grid for the 2023 F1 Singapore Grand Prix
- Toby McLuskie
After the FIA investigated all incidents and handed out penalties and reprimands, the provisional starting grid for the Singapore Grand Prix can be made. Carlos Sainz starts from pole position, with George Russell next to him. Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez will start the race from 11th and 13th places.
Pole position for Sainz, Russell starts second
Both Red Bull drivers were stranded in the second part of qualifying. The balance of the car was not right at all, resulting in a dramatic result. Without a Red Bull in the top-ten, the battle for pole position became completely open. The Ferrari drivers were well off; Sainz managed to take pole for the second weekend in a row, teammate Leclerc will start the race from P3. Mercedes driver Russell nestled between both Ferraris and will start second.
Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg will both start in the top-ten. After a strong qualifying session, they will start sixth and ninth respectively. Liam Lawson reached Q3 in only his third Grand Prix and will start the Singapore GP from tenth place. Lance Stroll crashed hard in qualifying and will start the race very last.
Red Bull and Verstappen disappointing
Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez struggled with their RB19. The curtain fell for them as early as Q2. The Dutchman will start the race from P11. This could have been worse for Verstappen, but the stewards decided to let the Dutchman get away with reprimands in investigations into three incidents. Perez will start the race from a disappointing 13th place.
