Leclerc cautious: 'Not confident enough for rest of season'
- Toby McLuskie
In both Monza and Singapore, Ferrari came out very well. Carlos Sainz captured pole position in both races, but Charles Leclerc is also in good shape. The Monegasque will start tomorrow from third position and is optimistic about the race. For the rest of the season, however, Leclerc is still a bit cautious about the SF-23's capabilities.
Although Monza and Singapore are completely different circuits in terms of characteristics, the Ferrari goes well at both tracks. Leclerc agrees. Asked if the SF-23 now gives the confidence on tracks with high downforce, the Monegasque commented: "This weekend it feels particularly good and much better than the high downforce tracks in the past. As I've said before, I think we found something in Monza that should go a step forward but definitely not as much as what we've seen this weekend. So I think our car is fitting these track characteristics."
Leclerc cautious about upcoming races
About the course of the rest of the season, the Ferrari driver is still somewhat cautious. Leclerc feels that good results at two circuits are not yet guarantees of consistency until the end of the season. "We shouldn't get carried away and I am not confident enough now to say that it will be the case for the rest of the season. Have we taken a step forward? Yes. Will it be like that until the end of the season? It’s too early to say," Leclerc said. The Monegasque will start the race in Singapore from third position.
