Criticism of Verstappen: 'That was overly grumpy and over the top’
Max Verstappen had a very difficult qualifying session in Singapore. The two-time world champion, who had just won 10 Grands Prix in a row, failed to qualify for Q3. F1 analyst Peter Windsor thought Verstappen could have responded a little differently over the on-board radio, he says on his own YouTube channel.
The British Formula One expert also saw that the Dutchman was struggling with his RB19. He could not get the tyres to the right temperature, which meant he had no grip through the corners. Red Bull was unable to find the right set-up for both Verstappen and teammate Sergio Perez, who has to start from P13. It was the first time since Sochi 2018 that not one Red Bull car managed to make Q3.
Criticism of Verstappen
Windsor did criticise Verstappen's reaction to engineer Gianpiero Lambiase. "It was pretty grumpy, really. Too much for a guy who [already] has the championship and has had a brilliant car underneath him all year." the former Williams employee stated. The 47-time race winner said over the board radio after his final lap: "I don't know if you saw that but it was a [***] experience. Absolutely shocking experience." Windsor felt it was an unnecessary comment from Verstappen. "It was a bit over the top really, [that is] what I thought about that reaction."
