After a thrilling end to the Singapore Grand Prix, Mercedes were able to take a step on the podium as Lewis Hamilton finished third. However, on the final lap, George Russell put his car into the barrier, but team boss Toto Wolff hailed this as "just an unfortunate moment."

After Russell started second on the grid behind Carlos Sainz, who went on to win the race, he was in the fight for a podium spot throughout the race, and during the final lap, the British driver was sat in P3 and looked to take his 11th F1 podium. However, after clipping the inside wall and then crashing into the barriers, he missed out, and Wolff was asked by Sky Sports about what happened to his driver.

"The things he said on the radio, you can't say that on television," Wolff said. "It was just an unfortunate moment. He clipped the wall, and that's a split-second tiny mistake, and it ended a great race. It's a shame because he would have deserved it."

When asked if the crash was because of the collision with the inside wall, Wolff agreed, saying, "Yeah, he kissed it. You could see the dust, and, obviously, that's it. It could have been a good third and fourth [place], lots of points, but now we’ve lost 22 against Ferrari."
