Vasseur jokes after win: 'Spend more time with Toto than with my wife'
The Singapore Grand Prix ended Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen's run of wins. Carlos Sainz won the race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit for Ferrari, and the Spaniard had everything under control, according to team boss Frederic Vasseur. Vasseur won his first race as Ferrari's team boss, which also allowed him to joke after the race.
Vasseur wins with Ferrari
After less than a full season, Vasseur has secured his first win with Ferrari. "For sure, it's a bit special, but perhaps it's a bit emotional, but I didn't overreact on the pit wall. The last couple of laps were quite intense, and it was more than something else, but I'm more than pleased for the team and for Carlos. Carlos had a fantastic weekend. He had mega pace. He did a very good job in the race. He was in control of the situation from lap one to the last corner," Vasseur started opposite Viaplay.
Ferrari stays out during VSC
With just under 20 laps to go, the virtual safety car (VSC) came out. The Mercedes drivers were brought in, but Ferrari decided to leave their driver outside. "It was the right call. We had to consider this point. We were in very good shape at the beginning, but with the VSC or safety cars, Charles was stuck in the traffic, into the pit lane, and we lost P2."
Vasseur jokes about Mercedes team boss Wolff
After the race, Toto Wolff approached Vasseur to congratulate him, which was much appreciated by the Ferrari team boss, who then joked, "We spent the last 25 years together, probably spending more time with Toto than with my wife. I know that we have to appreciate this journey, and thanks to Toto for the attitude," Vasseur concluded.
