Who is the 'GPblog Driver of the Day' for the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix?
Carlos Sainz has been voted the driver of the day by the GPblog audience. The Spanish driver started from pole position and went on to win the race, but it wasn't that easy. The Mercedes threatened to take the win from Sainz in the closing stages of the race. But the Ferrari driver was smart.
Sainz ensured that Lando Norris (behind in P2) stayed within the DRS range to give him a better chance of fighting George Russell and then Lewis Hamilton. He had to ensure the gap was far enough that the McLaren driver couldn't launch an attack while making him stay within one second. Therefore, it is not surprising to see him win with 51% of the vote.
Other votes
Max Verstappen came second in the vote with 15%. The Dutchman's Red Bull underperformed throughout the weekend, and they didn't reach Q3 for the first time since September 2018. Verstappen kept his head down and, in the end, finished fifth. Lewis Hamilton came third with 13% of the vote. The British driver finished on the podium after his teammate crashed. The seven-time World Champion had really good pace in the race's closing stages and left some wondering whether he was the better driver to attack Lando Norris. Liam Lawson scored points and impressed AlphaTauri once again. He picked up 9% of the vote. Other drivers who picked up votes were Norris, Piastri, Perez, Magnussen and Albon.
