Marko looks back: 'Had fastest car in the field during last stint'
Red Bull Racing had a tough weekend in Singapore. The team got the car's set-up wrong, and therefore fell behind Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren for the first time this season. Afterwards, Christian Horner and Helmut Marko told Auto Motor und Sport about the Austrian racing team's race.
All weekend long, things were not looking good for Red Bull. Verstappen complained a lot about the car. In qualifying, it became painfully clear how big the problems really were: Verstappen qualified 11th, and teammate Sergio Perez did not get beyond 13th place.
Red Bull fastest in the race?
Still, Red Bull was competitive again in the race. Verstappen eventually finished the race in fifth, just behind Charles Leclerc. Marko says: "At the beginning, the higher weight of the petrol probably helped, but also in the last stint on mediums, we had the fastest cars in the field."
Did Red Bull have to adjust car?
Rumours also circulated that Red Bull had had to adjust the car due to the changed technical regulations. Peter Windsor previously said that Adrian Newey had told him that it was not right, and now Horner confirms: "We didn't have to change anything on the car."
