Blick: 'This driver in the picture as Sargeant's replacement already this season'
- Ludo van Denderen
Logan Sargeant is not making a huge impression at Williams this season. While his teammate Alex Albon has now collected 21 points, the American rookie still stands at zero. Even Liam Lawson, who only recently made his entrance into Formula 1, has already scored points. Consequently, Sargeant's performance has long been cause for speculation about his future.
Williams has now confirmed that Albon will continue to race for the team next season. With Sargeant, the English team sees clear development, but he is far from certain of another season at Williams. Meanwhile, Swiss Blick reports, a driver is running around in the background to take over that seat from Sargeant. Indeed, there are said to have been talks to replace Sargeant as early as this season.
Drugovich waiting
Felipe Drugovich, currently both reigning F2 champion and Aston Martin's reserve driver, is said to be talking to Williams about a contract. But there are a few complicating factors. First of all, Sargeant brings with him the necessary sponsors and their money is more than welcome at Williams. Moreover, two more Grands Prix in the United States are coming up (in Austin and Las Vegas). Williams, owned by an American investment company, would love to have an American in the car, as it provides a lot of publicity in the US.
Drugovich was also reportedly in the picture at Alfa Romeo, as a possible replacement for Guanyu Zhou. However, the Chinese extended his commitment last week. Brazilian Drugovich is also a leading candidate for Maserati MSG Racing's Formula E team.
