Recently, Mick Schumacher has been linked to the World Endurance Championship(WEC). The former F1 driver will reportedly sign with Alpine to embark on a new adventure in his racing career. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff says this move need not mean the end of his work in Formula 1, for Schumacher.

As a Mercedes reserve driver, Schumacher is still involved in Formula 1. Even with the possible signing of a contract with Alpine in the WEC, the lines to F1 remain short, but according to Wolff, it is not necessary for Schumacher to find a way back to F1 via Alpine. Indeed, there remains a place for the German at Mercedes.

'Schumacher may stay anyway'

So reports the Austrian to Motorsport.com. Although confirmation is not there yet, it seems plausible that Schumacher will go to the WEC with Alpine. Indeed, Alpine says it is keen to have a big name attached to the project. A confirmation is unlikely to follow before October.

Wolff also seems to believe the rumours and reveals that Schumacher is under no obligation to leave Mercedes. Wolff: "Whatever programme he does decide, he can stay, if it is possible from the other side, with us as a reserve driver."
