The Alfa Romeo team launched a host of updates to their cars in Singapore. However, points did not result; Valtteri Bottas crashed out shortly before the end of the race, Guanyu Zhou finished 12th. Despite the results in Singapore, the drivers are both optimistic about the race at Suzuka.
Bottas: 'Suzuka is my favourite track'
Valtteri Bottas travels to Japan with a good feeling. The Finn gets to drive at his favourite track, where he won the race in 2019:"The atmosphere at the track is incredible, and the fans’ dedication and passion are fantastic." Bottas saw his team have a difficult weekend in Singapore, but is nevertheless positive about upcoming race. "Singapore was quite a difficult weekend for us, but as a positive, we got to learn more about the upgrades package, which should help us do a further step forward in Japan," the Alfa Romeo driver indicated.
Bottas indicates that steps forward should not only be taken in Japan, taking the competition as an example. "WWe have seen how our direct competitors have all made progress recently, and that must be our aim, too: we still have chances to score more points and advance in the standings," he reveals. According to the Finn, the important thing now is for the team to do their homework to make full use of the potential of the new parts on his car.
Zhou: 'Layout of Suzuka suits our car better'
Guanyu Zhou is also heading to Suzuka with confidence. He saw many bright spots despite a 12th position in Singapore: "The Singapore weekend was one in which we turned around a very difficult start and ended up with a decent race: we may not have scored points, but the performance was good." The Chinese driver also says the recent upgrades to his car should do better in Japan. "I am looking forward to being back on track, and continue working on extracting the full potential of our new package. We expect to make a proper step forward here, as the track layout is meant to suit our car better," Zhou indicated.
