Allison saw Red Bull disappoint: 'But will be back in form in Japan'
- GPblog.com
Red Bull Racing had a dramatic weekend in Singapore. The RB19 did not go for a meter, which meant both drivers were eliminated as early as Q2. James Allison, Mercedes' technical director, looks back briefly at the Singapore race and indicates that that circuit was also a tough hurdle for Mercedes to clear at times. He also looks ahead to the Japanese Grand Prix.
Allison: 'Suzuka is a circuit we are looking forward to'
The Mercedes team heads to Suzuka full of confidence. Allison sees a completely different circuit to Marina Bay and says he is looking forward to the race in Japan. "For our own part it is a track we are looking forward to. It is a track that asked very different questions of a car than Singapore. It’s a track with extremely fast corners, some slow stuff," Allison began. "It is also a track where you need quite a lot of front load in the car, quite a lot of front load at the front wing, something which is not the case in Singapore."
The technical director thinks his team will do well at Suzuka. "I think that we should do okay, I think that our car has been reasonably good at coping with
the challenges posed by quite a wide range of tracks now and I am looking forward for us getting there, unpacking everything, and seeing how it looks on the Friday running," said the Mercedes technical man.
'Red Bull will be back in form at Suzuka'
The Briton also briefly looks back at Singapore. Red Bull had a very disappointing weekend there. Although Max Verstappen still finished fifth, the RB19 did not seem to have the speed all weekend. Allison comments on that: "Singapore is not a run of the mill track. We know from past experience, you can have a very, very dominant season and still trip up in Singapore. And for whatever reason my guess is that Red Bull tripped up there and they will be back on form when it comes to Suzuka."
