Double celebration for Red Bull and Honda after second consecutive F1 constructors' title
Max Verstappen single-handedly secured the constructors' title for Red Bull Racing at the Japanese Grand Prix. That he did so in engine supplier Honda's home race, which makes the achievement all the more special for the Austrian team.
Verstappen recorded a monster victory at the Japanese GP at the Suzuka Circuit. To clinch the constructors' title, the team only needed to be one point ahead of Mercedes and Ferrari could not make up 24 points. The Dutchman gave none of his rivals a chance to even challenge his dominant performance and drove effortlessly to victory.
Double celebration for Honda
For Red Bull, Verstappen's monster victory means the sixth constructors' title in Formula 1 and the second in a row. For Honda, winning the title is extra special because the manufacturer is also celebrating its 75th anniversary on Sunday.
Sergio Perez was no help at all for the Austrian racing team on Sunday: the Mexican crashed out in the early stages of the race after several mistakes of his own. Fifteen laps had already passed when suddenly something bizarre happened: Perez, whose failure had already been registered, put his helmet back on and got back into the RB19. The intention behind it was clear: the team wanted Perez to serve his penalty to avoid it being converted into a grid penalty at the Qatar GP.
