Verstappen broke Schumacher's impressive record with F1 win in Japan

The Japanese Grand Prix was dominated by Max Verstappen's sensational victory, giving Red Bull Racing its sixth Formula 1 constructors' title and second in a row. The Dutchman also broke an impressive record previously held by F1 legend Michael Schumacher.

  1. Verstappen breaks Schumacher record

Prior to the Japan GP, Verstappen and Schumacher were equal in the number of races they had won consecutively from pole position. In Japan, the Dutchman started from pole position, only to turn it into a win. He did so for the thirteenth time in a row, setting the record for good.

For Red Bull, Sergio Perez's failure meant not so much a record as a dubious milestone. For the first time this year, both Red Bulls did not reach the finish of a Grand Prix.

What made the 'milestone' special was that the Mexican was sent back onto the track after his stoppage to serve a time penalty. After this, he was called back in, effectively marking a double stoppage during the Japanese F1 race.
