Verstappen amidst champions like Schumacher: 'Never been a fan of anyone'
Sebastian Vettel spoke in Japan about Max Verstappen's dominance in Formula 1. Vettel himself is familiar with dominance in the sport and mentioned Verstappen in the same breath as Michael Schumacher. Verstappen does not care much about that and says each driver does it in his own way.
Verstappen was never a fan of one driver
The Dutchman discussed this with the press in Japan. The two-time world champion was asked if he was a fan of Schumacher and if he gets inspiration from looking back at the German's dominant period in the early 2000s. Verstappen: "I was never really a fan of anyone, I just appreciated everyone's success and from my side I was like, ‘I want to be there one day, I want to stand on the podium or win races’."
Verstappen continued: "Everyone has a different way how you get to Formula 1 anyway, a different upbringing, so there are a lot of factors that come into play and I think the beautiful thing about Formula 1, everyone is different because if everyone was exactly the same, I think it's quite boring. Of course the success of some of the greats, that's amazing, you might get a little bit of inspiration from it but I wouldn't necessarily want to try and do it the same way."
