Aston Martin remain positive: 'Our morale is surprisingly strong'
Aston Martin team pinricpal Mike Krack is confident his team can finish the season strongly. Aston Martin had a dream start to 2023, but in recent races the cars of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll seem to have lost speed. However, Krack sees starting points to be able to find the way to the podium again.
The Aston Martin team boss denied in the F1 Nation podcast that Aston Martin employees are disappointed with the loss of form. On the contrary, according to Krack, team morale is very high:"Surprisingly strong, with all of them, especially in the garage. You can see everybody wants to get back to the podium. Everybody liked this experience from the beginning of the year, so the morale is strong, and it is something that we need to keep up," Krack points out.
Krack: 'Aston Martin should not just talk, but bring updates'
However, the Luxembourger knows that words are not deeds and stresses the importance of improvements to the car. "But also, we need to not only talk about it - we need to bring upgrades," Krack says. "We need to bring our car back into a better window, and then the morale is anyway good."
Krack knows it will be a tough task to compete with Mercedes and McLaren, but he holds out hope. The team boss also saw a sudden loss of form from a number of teams in recent races and that makes him hopeful:"But the last races have told us that any team can be on the back foot, anytime. We've seen it in Singapore with the guys [Red Bull] that have won the championship."
Fighting constructors behind Red Bull is still wide open
Aston Martin is currently fourth in the constructors' standings. Number two Mercedes seems to be out of sight with an 84-point lead and Ferrari also ran further ahead in recent race weekends. Lawrence Stroll's team is being chased by McLaren. The Woking-based team, which is in very good form, is only 49 points behind.
