When does Sergio Perez's Red Bull contract expire?
Sergio Perez's contract with Red Bull expires at the conclusion of the 2024 Formula 1 season. Perez is contracted to drive the Red Bull car until the chequered flag falls at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December 2024. This deal was announced a few days after Perez won the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix.
Perez at Red Bull Racing
After claiming his first victory in Formula 1, many believed that Checo might've been forced to take a break from the sport, with his contract expiring at Racing Point. However, that wasn’t the case. The Mexican switched to Red Bull to partner up with Verstappen and immediately made an impact, claiming four podiums and one race win. These helped propel Red Bull to second place in the Constructors’ Championship, behind only Mercedes. In Abu Dhabi, Perez delayed Hamilton advancing in the race and opened up enough of a gap to pit when the infamous safety car was deployed.
More podiums and victories came flooding in the following year as Verstappen stepped it up another notch. Perez found his groove for the Austrian team. He secured nine podiums and two race wins to his name, as he finished third overall and helped Red Bull win the Constructors’ Championship for the first time since 2013.
Red Bull were pleased with Perez's work and, in May 2022, signed a new deal that will see Perez race for the Austrian team until the end of 2024.
Will Perez sign another contract with Red Bull?
It's unclear whether Perez will sign another contract with Red Bull. Perez will be approaching 35 when his current deal expires, so retirement is likely to be some way off. With Red Bull having the best car, it's unlikely that he'll want to leave Red Bull even if Verstappen continues to beat him regularly.
So the ball will be in the Red Bull court. They have a strong junior line-up, with Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson waiting in the wings. Daniel Ricciardo will drive for AlphaTauri in 2024 and could also be involved in the discussions.
