The Qatar Grand Prix already has its grid set for Sunday's race, but today it brings a slightly different schedule than usual. The drivers will focus on 'Sprint Saturday,' with the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix at Losail International Circuit taking place on Sunday, October 8, at 18:00 BST. It will be the 17th race in the 2023 Formula 1 season and the first at the venue since 2021.

Verstappen and Red Bull Racing returned to form in Japan and this carried on in yesterday's qualifying session. Carlos Sainz won the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix but couldn't get close to Verstappen in Suzuka, and yesterday was a similar result. The Spaniard bowed out in Q2, whilst Verstappen stormed ahead to claim pole position. The result in Japan means that Verstappen is now extremely close to winning his third World Championship and can even do it today.

When will the drivers be in action?

The Qatar Grand Prix weekend will see the sprint format of Formula 1, which dominates the proceedings today, with the Sprint Shootout forming the grid for the sprint race. The main event takes place on Sunday at 18:00 BST.
