Debate | Hamilton shows he's a great champion with apology to Russell
- GPblog.com
It was his initial reaction: "I was tapped out of the race by my own teammate." After Lewis Hamilton watched replays of the incident back, the Briton went back on his words. It was not his teammate George Russell who had caused Hamilton to lose expensive points in the battle for spot two in the championship, but he himself. Humbly, Hamilton personally apologised to Russell. This leads GPblog to the statement: 'Hamilton is showing himself to be a great champion with his "sorry"'.
Admitting that you have done something wrong is not everyone's cup of tea. Certainly not all athletes, who ultimately always want to achieve the highest for themselves. Everything has to give way, compromises are often not possible. The outside world may see this as showing weakness. So it is better to remain silent, even if deep down you know you have done something wrong.
George Russell accepted Hamilton's apology, but he added in conversation with GPblog and others that there are two parties influencing an event. In doing so, he did not seem to exonerate himself entirely for the incident in the early stages of the Qatar Grand Prix. Hamilton, however, wants no part of that: he and he alone ensured that Russell's race was confiscated on the very first lap, Hamilton told every microphone in a soft tone.
Let your opinion be heard!
Hamilton did win, lots of wins. Wins he celebrated big time. The incident in Qatar was a loss and Hamilton humbly accepted the consequences. With that visibly heartfelt apology, Hamilton shows himself a great champion, is therefore our contention. What do you think? Comment in the comments and vote in the poll!
