In Mexico, criticism of Red Bull Racing's - and in particular Helmut Marko's - handling of Sergio Perez has been resounding for months. But a few weeks ahead of the Mexican GP, other grumblings are now echoing. Fans are dissatisfied with the special Perez merchandise for the weekend at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez Circuit.

Just as Verstappen got his own line for the Dutch Grand Prix, Perez will get it for his home race in Mexico City. Reportedly , 65 per cent of Red Bull merchandise is bought by Mexicans, but that percentage could be a bit lower this year. There is dissatisfaction with the design of the Mexico merchandise.

The clothing line features a cactus, but: 'A cactus? Do you build all the merchandise around that for your driver's home race? There is marigold (a typical plant, ed.), the Day of the Dead theme, papel picado...', one fan criticised Red Bull. And so are more fans who argue that there are other, better symbols that represent a Mexican than a cactus.

Alpine and McLaren do better

Much reference is made to the merchandise marketed by McLaren and Alpine for the Mexican Grand Prix. They may not employ a Mexican driver, but they still designed a special clothing line. 'I wake up and see the Red Bull merchandise for Chéco in Mexico, and it looks terrible! What's so Mexican about it? Lando's and Alpine's are much better,' said yet another fan.
