Max Verstappen's teammate Sergio Perez has struggled over recent races. Perez regularly made sloppy mistakes and scored far fewer points than he should with a car as fast as the Red Bull RB19.

Consequently, rumours of a possible early end to the Mexican's Formula 1 career are buzzing in Formula 1. But according to Perez himself, none of this is true. The Red Bull team's second driver spoke to Motorsport.com about the news coverage in recent weeks.

Perez laughs about it

According to Perez, none of it is true. The Mexican can laugh about it. Asked about a rumour that he might be ejected from the car after his home race in Mexico, Perez said: "I just laugh about it. I cannot change anything and am completely focused on my own performance. I have been very busy working with the team lately".

Earlier, it was announced that the Formula 1 driver had spent three days in the Red Bull simulator to find out what had gone wrong and build more confidence for the upcoming races.

Perez is, therefore, confident and says he is "100%" certain that he will drive alongside Verstappen again next year in the Red Bull. The troubled driver explained he has a contract and has had good talks with the team. "I have a contract and have already had discussions with the team. There is no reason for me not to serve out the contract."

Also, beyond 2024?

The Mexican is even looking further ahead. According to Perez, his current contract, which runs until the end of 2024, won't be his last in Formula 1. He adds that he is only 33 and still has some good years to go. By this, Sergio seems to say he is already sure of a 2025 seat in Formula 1. However, he did not say whether that is with Red Bull or another team.
