Marko responds to Red Bull crisis: 'There are small differences of opinion'
- Ludo van Denderen
Much has been said and written about it by now: Is there a power struggle going on at Red Bull Racing? All the protagonists have now had their say on the media-dormant issue. Yet the questions about what might be going on at the world champion keep coming. At the microphone of German Sky Sports, Helmut Marko - the focal point of all this - again addressed the stories.
Just in a nutshell: reports emerged from Brazil a week ago that Helmut Marko might be thanked for services rendered. A possible departure of the external advisor would be prompted by team boss Christian Horner, who wanted to pull the strings even further after the death of Dietrich Mateschitz (the top man at Red Bull). Soon, both protagonists informed various media outlets that nothing was going on internally.
Then, of course, the big question is where are all these rumours coming from? Marko has an idea about that. "I think we win too much!" laughed the Austrian. He continued, "it's misinformation and that's being milked now. Overall, the structure and working climate in the team is fine. There are small differences of opinion - that's clear - but everything will be fine."
Marko finds current situation Red Bull logical
According to Marko, it is perfectly logical that after the removal of a 'charismatic person' like Mateschitz, people have to rediscover their roles within an organisation. "We are experiencing Red Bull Racing's most successful season ever, but that has nothing to do with how we behave and treat each other," Marko said.
The consultant additionally pointed out that he and Horner have known each other for 27 years and together have built Red Bull Racing into the team it is today. "Christian does the operational stuff, I'm more concerned with strategy. This has worked well so far and we will see if this works in the future as well."
