Marko compliments FIA: 'Good decision in spirit of the sport'
- Toby McLuskie
Helmut Marko is happy that Max Verstappen does get to start the sprint race from pole position. The Red Bull Racing advisor also thinks it is a good move by the FIA to further widen the track limits.
"A faultless lap without track limits and the like," was how Marko summed up Verstappen's decisive run at the German branch of Sky. The lap was 'flawless,' yet there was still more to come. "It was not an optimal lap, but it was enough," he said. The 26-year-old Dutchman held half a tenth over runner-up Charles Leclerc when crossing the line.
Track limits
A day earlier, the difference between the two drivers was even smaller: five thousandths in Verstappen's favour. However, the Red Bull driver's time was - as is well known - taken away because of track limits.
On Saturday, the FIA intervened and the track limits were widened at three different spots on the track; including at the spot where Verstappen went too wide. Compliments to the FIA
"There were simply too many transgressions. Unfortunately, it only came today, otherwise, we would be on pole position, but it is a sensible regulation after all. I think that in the last races, like in Doha with the tyre regulation, good decisions are made in the sense of the sport."
