Verstappen and Red Bull could break more records in Mexican GP
With his victory in the United States Grand Prix, Max Verstappen equalled his own record of 15 Formula 1 wins in a season. In the Mexico GP, he can break this record, but it is not the only record that can be broken or tightened at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
Verstappen could break more records and reach new milestones in Mexico GP
The Mexican F1 weekend could see Verstappen set an impressive record. If he wins the race, it will be his 16th of the season. In doing so, he would break his own record of most wins in a season. In 2022, he took over the record held by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vetttel, who both won 13 times in a season.
Another record that the Dutchman can top is the most wins in Mexico. That record is already in his name: Verstappen has won four times so far at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, followed by Jim Clark with three wins. Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell and Lewis Hamilton all won twice at the circuit. A Verstappen win would also put him equal fourth on the all-time list with Prost. There could be more bad news for Prost. The Frenchman led 2,683 laps in his career, and Verstappen is within touching distance in Mexico. He has led 2,650 laps in his career.
Red Bull Racing can also put a record on their name for good. Currently, the Austrian team still shares the record for most wins in Mexico with Lotus, which also won there four times in the 1960s. One more win would bring the tally to five for Red Bull. McLaren, Williams and Mercedes all won three times in Mexico, while Ferrari managed two wins there.
Records and milestones outside of Red Bull and Verstappen
Nico Hulkenberg will compete in his 200th Grand Prix this weekend (overtaking Prost in the all-time list). He will then become just the second driver in F1 history to race in 200 Grands Prix without a victory. He joins Andrea De Cesaris in the same club.
If a British driver finishes on the podium, it will be the 750th time a driver from Britain stands on the podium. And if that British driver is Lando Norris, he will become the first McLaren driver to finish five consecutive races on the podium since Jenson Button in 2011.
