Alpine strikes important blow, brings in former Mercedes and Ferrari chief executive
- Toby McLuskie
Alpine has appointed Eric Meignan as the new technical director of its engine division. Meignan's responsibilities include helping the French formation develop a competitive engine for 2026 when the new power unit regulations come into force.
Acquisition for Alpine
Meignan is a familiar name in Formula 1. Previously, he worked for years as head of the engine department at Mercedes and between 2020 and 2023 he was employed at Ferrari. So now the move to Alpine follows.
'We're very happy to welcome Eric to Viry and I think he will bring a lot because he's a long-experienced guy in Formula 1, 'I think he will challenge our team. He's coming at the right time to challenge our guys to prepare better for the 2026 PU generation and I'm very confident that he will do a very good job with all the guys in Viry. He has started already and I think he will be very operational soon."
With Meignan's arrival, Famin will have more time to focus on other things. The Frenchman took over the duties of the departed Otmar Szafnauer, but his other ('old') responsibilities have not lapsed with it.
