Toto Wolff expects an exciting qualifying session in Mexico. The Mercedes team boss does not rule out that the battle for pole position will be decided on less than a tenth difference. With George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, Wolff himself is hoping for a place on the front row of the grid, but it won't be easy.

After the end of the third free practice session, Wolff chimed in with the German branch of Sky. He concluded that - as so often this year - Mercedes is only really comfortable with one car. "I don't know, every weekend we have an issue with one of them. It swings from weekend to weekend at the moment. I think it's very track-specific."

Russell seems comfortable in the W14 in Mexico City, but the same is not exactly true of Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion is struggling and, with the small differences in lap time, it will come down to the details. "I think we just have to keep everything on point because if you're a tenth off, it can mean you're seventh or eighth or you're first or second."

Albon the surprise

According to Wolff, Verstappen currently has the best papers to start Sunday from first place, but according to the Austrian, the difference with the Ferraris, McLarens and Mercedes is not that big. And then you have a Williams driver called Alexander Albon: "Alex has been strong in every session here and in the longruns it looked good as well. Williams are going really well here in Mexico."
