Verstappen not concerned with records: 'Just wants to win every race'
- Toby McLuskie
Max Verstappen goes for his 11th pole position and 16th win of 2023 in Mexico. With the latter, Verstappen would set a record, although that is already in his name. However, the Dutchman is not concerned with these records at all.
Verstappen not concerned with sealing record
This season, Verstappen has already broken several records. Among others, the Dutchman took the record for most consecutive wins, which now stands at ten. Previously, this record was held by Sebastian Vettel. So in Mexico, the three-time world champion can break his own record and he will go all out for that.
"Of course, we will try to do that. We have a few more races this season and of course, I want to win them. We'll see for ourselves. Of course, it's just been a super season, we've won a lot of races, but whether it's fifteen, sixteen or seventeen, I just want to try to win every race I take part in," Verstappen told Viaplay.
What can Verstappen do in qualifying?
Verstappen was fastest in all three practice sessions, but whether that will be the case in qualifying, the Dutchman is not so sure yet. "Yesterday everyone was very close, to be honest. Of course McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes. So of course I think today everyone is still trying to fine tune a bit, ourselves as well. On this track, it's just always very, very close together."
According to the Red Bull Racing driver, the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez has a lot of challenges. "At this circuit, the tricky thing is to get the tyres working well for the first corner and then also keep them alive for the last sector. You always have to find a good balance in that. Plus, on this circuit in that first sector with those kerbs, you can obviously take them very well or very badly. It's very difficult to be consistent there."
