Verstappen breaks his own record and matches Prost
Max Verstappen has recorded his sixteenth victory in the 2023 Formula 1 season. The Dutchman thus improves his record from 2022, when the three-time world champion managed 15 victories. Verstappen also matched Alain Prost.
Verstappen has set his own 2022 record yet again. In 2022, Verstappen became the first driver to achieve 15 victories in a single season. In doing so, he passed Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher, who both came to thirteen wins in a single year.
Records for Verstappen
Verstappen equalled his own record with victory in the United States, but has now broken the record. With three Grands Prix to go, the Dutchman can even extend his record. Verstappen needs to win at least one more race to also break the win percentage record. That stands in the name of Juan Manuel Fangio, who won six out of eight races in 1952, making 75 per cent. If Verstappen wins 17 races, he will reach 77 per cent.
Verstappen's 51st F1 victory also puts him on par with Alain Prost in a shared fourth spot. Verstappen has only Sebastian Vettel, Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton ahead of him. Vettel can still be overtaken for Verstappen in 2023, but he has to win all three remaining Grand Prix.
