Sergio Perez had a disastrous home race at the Mexican Grand Prix. At the first corner, it was over for the Mexican Formula 1 driver. As a result, his future in Formula 1 is again fodder for much speculation. Perez has a contract with Red Bull Racing for the 2024 season.
But that does not mean he will actually keep his seat. Earlier, Red Bull boss Christian Horner revealed to the media that he has the "intention" to keep Perez with the F1 team next year. Even earlier, Perez revealed that he was sure of his seat for next year and hinted that he would still be active in 2025.
At the time, it was not entirely clear what he meant by that last remark, but according to rumours picked up by Total Motorsport, an extension through 2025 would be a possibility for Perez. The publication reports that talks between Perez and Red Bull on a renegotiated new contract will take place in December.
Two-year contract
A major topic of the negotiations will be the length of the deal, with the possibility of a new two-year contract that would start in 2024 and end in 2025, setting aside the final year of his current deal with Red Bull.
Negotiations are not due until December, so the 33-year-old driver can concentrate on securing second place in the drivers' championship. Sergio Perez has tallied 240 points this year. Hamilton is third with 220 points and is fast approaching, with three races to go. The battle for second place is far from over.
