Perez doesn’t believe in street circuit advantage: ‘Even Baku is different'
Sergio Perez has a 32-point lead over Lewis Hamilton in the drivers’ standings in their clash for second place with two races to go, but the Mexican says this gap does not influence him ahead of the Las Vegas GP. 'Checo' also explained what he expect from this weekend in the USA.
"No different to before. We just have to do our own thing and make sure we maximise our next two weekends. It would be nice to secure it here because it's the first opportunity we have. But other than that, I think it's more important that we focus on having a strong finish to the season," Sergio Perez commented on his battle with Lewis Hamilton in the drivers' standings.
About his chances this weekend, Perez said: "It's a place that we have no idea how it's going to be. It's so different to the rest of the year because first of all, the temperatures. Then it's all about keeping the tyres in the window, keeping them warm. I think that's going to be the challenge. So it's going to be very different to anything else that we've done this year. So I don't think we know how strong we're going to be. So it will be an interesting one."
The Mexican last won a race on a street circuit, back in Baku. However, Perez said things have also changed now, and it does not improve his chances this weekend.
"Every weekend, even if we go to Baku now, things are different. Things have changed. It's how the year evolves in Formula 1. I feel like we are in a good moment as a group, as a team. We haven't been able to put the results all together in the last few weekends, but I believe that we are on our way, and we are getting a lot closer to our performances from earlier in the season," he concluded.
