Steiner happy with stewards' ruling: 'FIA does a bad job'
Guenther Steiner does not regret protesting the result of the United States Grand Prix. The fact that the stewards have indicated that the FIA is not doing their job properly is reason enough for the Haas team boss to be satisfied.
Several drivers allegedly cut off turn six during the US Grand Prix. Haas tried to use a right to review to adjust the result but was acted upon further by the stewards. The evidence was not new, relevant or significant to investigate the result further. Nevertheless, Steiner is satisfied.
Right to review by Haas
"I don't regret it. Obviously we were conscious that it will be difficult to make it stick but at least we tried. What came out is that the stewards actually said to the FIA that it’s doing a bad job," Steiner said, according to Racefans.
Steiner refers to the line in the stewards' verdict in which they appeal to the FIA to provide better resources in the future. Now there was no CCTV placed in a place that could monitor track limits in turn six, allowing drivers to cut this corner at will. This should be remedied by the FIA in future, the stewards argued.
"They should make sure that they’ve got the means in place to check their own regulations, not me sitting at home or Aston Martin [who protested over a similar matter in Austria] checking what they are doing. That is not the team’s job. In half an hour, we didn’t have time to go through all that stuff because that is not our job. We are not the governing body, we are a race team, we pay somebody to do this job – the FIA," the Haas team boss concludes.
