Absurd: Grid penalty for Carlos Sainz for replacing engine parts
- GPblog.com
Carlos Sainz gets a grid penalty for the Las Vegas Grand Prix because he had to replace several engine parts. This was necessary because a cover had come loose and badly damaged his Ferrari. However, the stewards have still handed a penalty.
For each replaced part that causes Ferrari to exceed the limit, a penalty of five places back on the grid follows. Sainz will therefore start the race from behind, which will reduce his chances of a good result.
