Jos Verstappen on criticism of Max: 'I told him that right away'
Max Verstappen was not exactly looking forward to the Las Vegas Grand Prix. That could be called an understatement, as the Red Bull Racing driver lashed out about the whole show. The 26-year-old Dutchman felt like a clown, and that did not sit well with him at all. Jos Verstappen does understand his son's criticism.
Much was made of Verstappen's statement. Helmut Marko stated in the USA that Verstappen's statements were understandable though the reaction could have been a bit different, and team boss Christian Horner also sounded understanding.
Jos Verstappen: "I do think he can say things, but in this case in a neater way. I told him that directly," he told De Telegraaf. Verstappen spoke briefly with someone from Formula 1 itself shortly before the race. "Once in a while he needs that too. I also think the battery is running out a bit, with a lot of people. But that Max likes racing, you saw that today. I understand his opinion, but you can't kick blindly at everything."
Las Vegas Street Circuit
Verstappen didn't like the Las Vegas Street Circuit prior to the weekend, but he has since come around a bit. The circuit provided the necessary spectacle. In the press conference, the three-time world champion was asked if it was the best race of the year.
"It was a very good [race]. I have to think about all the other races. It's a bit difficult to answer this, but it was a fun race. I enjoyed it," Verstappen said.
