After his debut year in Formula 1 ended in disappointment due to his early exit at AlphaTauri, De Vries' future was a big question mark. However, it was clear that the Formula E world champion had plenty of options in other racing classes. For instance, it was previously announced that De Vries will drive for Mahindra Racing in the upcoming FE season following the departure of Lucas di Grassi. Edoardo Mortara will be his teammate there.
In addition, there had long been rumours about a possible seat with Toyota's WEC works team. Those reports appear to be true, as Toyota has now officially welcomed the Dutchman to the team.
"In the Hypercar category of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), Nyck de Vries will join the team as a new driver of car #7 for the 2024 season which will see a number of new rivals participate. Under the leadership of Team Principal Kamui Kobayashi, the team will aim to secure both the Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ double for a sixth year in succession," read the Toyota Gazoo Racing statement.
